40 MTA Bus Operators Graduate & Ready For Service
Largest Class of graduates set to take the wheel    

Baltimore, MD (August 29, 2008) – The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is pleased to announce the addition of forty (40) new bus operators to its corps of professional operators. The new bus operators will graduate at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 29, 2008 in a formal commencement ceremony at the MTA Northwest Bus Division, 4401 Mt. Hope Drive, Baltimore, Maryland.  The MTA Police Honor Guard will present the flags in tribute to the new operators and MTA Administrator Paul J. Wiedefeld will award the diplomas.            

“We are proud of these men and women who have chosen public service and who have diligently completed the stringent requirements of the MTA Bus Operator training program,” said Wiedefeld. “These new operators represent our commitment to the growth of our service and to providing safe and efficient transit.”            

In FY2007 Local and Express Buses accounted for over 67 percent (64,272,216) of the MTA’s total number of passenger trips (96,585,169). The MTA currently has an average weekday Local and Express Bus ridership of 217, 872, a fleet of 669 buses including hybrids and buses equipped with bicycle racks, 7,500 bus stops, and 50 routes.
